I would like to take a few minutes to introduce two very important girls in my life, Jennifer and Jessica Bellemore. These two young ladies are my nieces and they are Deaf. I have learned quite a bit growing up with these two young ladies. Watching Jennifer and Jessica struggle through the school system on a Regular Education diploma is the reason I myself decided to pursue a career in Special Education. I have watched both of them over come many obstacles in academics. I remember when Jennifer's high school told her she could not take journalism because she was Deaf. Well these girls even though they are Deaf don't like to be told they can't do something just because they are Deaf. Jennifer fought the school's decision and ended up in Journalism for the whole year not to mention she ended up with her own column in the school newspaper. Jessica in high school became a color guard girl even though the band director thought she couldn't do it because she was Deaf. Turns out she was the best color guard girl she ever had on the Band. Currently Jennifer is attending Gallaudet University where she is a cheerleader and part of Gallaudet's elite dance team. Jessica is currently finishing high school and plans to attend University of Florida when she graduates.

Way to go Girls....
